Working Capital – Iconic London Chippy Reopens!

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

Golden Union re-opens for delivery and collection and breathes new life into Soho

–       12 years of fish ‘n’ chips on Poland Street

–       New buttie menu to rival all buttie menus

–       Delivery and collection only to begin with

Fish ‘n’ chip gurus Golden Union celebrate the easing of lockdown today by announcing they’re re-opening on Poland Street in Soho this week with an incredible new buttie menu that sits neatly alongside their traditional offering of beer-battered fish ‘n’ chips, pies, sides and saveloys.

The menu features a mouth-watering array of butties, made with soft, pillowy American glazed white rolls and crowd-pleasing ingredients, such as King Prawn buttie with chilli jam and rocket; Panko Chicken buttie, iceberg lettuce, and homemade coleslaw; or Panko bread-crumbed tuna steak with homemade slaw, rocket and sriracha mayo.  All butties come with a generous scoop of proper hand-cut chips.  They’re moreish and comforting and designed for easy delivery and collection – they travel well and stay warm for ages.

Golden Union launched in 2008, way before the current crop of trendy fish ‘n’ chip shops dotted around London.  Owners Billy Drew and Kerry Brennan pride themselves on its warm, welcoming, retro colours and vibes.   It’s been packed since day one and to this day is still the only traditional chippy in Soho.

Golden Union is special in that it’s not just a fish ‘n’ chips shop. It’s a focal point for the community; Kerry says, “This lockdown has been doubly awful for me because I’m normally in the restaurant every day.  I talk to our customers every day.  I talk to the homeless, the disenfranchised, the builders, the workers, office workers, tourists, tired and hungry shoppers….and people who are possibly a bit lonely.  In that respect, Golden Union provides a vital service and I’m gutted we’ve had to take that away.  I’m delighted to be trading again.”

This warmth comes from a lifetime of trading in and around Soho.  Co-owner Billy Drew has CV as long as your arm: from running The Endurance pub to founding Riki-Tik in the 90s, he is no stranger to the buzz and glitter of Soho’s nightlife scene.    He also helped put Patty & Bun on the map when he gave them their first residency back in 2013.

Golden Union’s buttie menu starts at £5.75 and they all come with rocket salad and a choice of red onion marmalade or black garlic ketchup and a scoop of home-made chips.

Delivery will be through Deliveroo and Orderswift.

Opening times for collection: Mon – Sat 11.30 am – 7 pm for the first two weeks and after July 4th, back to standard restaurant times.
