Football fans are set to order and eat millions of delivered takeaways during each England & Wales match, new research has revealed.
Experts are predicting a mammoth TV audience of more than 17 million will watch each England game in Qatar – with 30% of those viewing at home and eating a takeaway while the teams face off.
New research conducted by online food ordering app Foodhub, shows that whilst pizza is the TV watching football fans favourite match takeaway however fish and chips is well in the top ten with approaching 1/2 million online orders. Our dish falls ahead of both Indian & Kebabs!
Experts at Foodhub predict a massive surge in takeaway orders when the football is on, which is supported by the fact that over half of the UK (56%) agrees that watching football is better with food.
What’s more, the majority of the UK (52%) stated their favourite place to watch football is in the comfort of their own home, with just 1 in 5 (20%) opting for the pub as their matchday setting.
Emma Stockman, a spokesperson for Foodhub, said: “Like the rest of the UK, we cannot wait to watch the football this winter here at Foodhub. Football and food tend to go hand in hand and we’re not surprised to see the majority of football fans stating that the sport is better when coupled with food. “Based on predicted TV viewing figures and our survey results we confidently expect football fans to munch their way through millions of takeaways while watching the national teams this winter”.
More than three quarters (76%) of those aged 18 – 24 say they will be ordering a takeaway during the football.
