Fusco’s Clean up in Whitby!

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]The Fusco family hit the beach in clean-up operation!

The Fusco family, who own and operate Quayside in Whitby, have been swapping the friers for the beach in a bid to help play their part in keeping their local beach clean and tidy.

Brothers, Stuart and Adrian Fusco, along with Adrian’s children headed down to the West Cliff Beach with gloves and potato sacks to run a beach clean, in conjunction with the MCS’ (Marine Conservation Society) ‘Great British Beach Clean 2020’, which ran from 18th – 25th September 2020.

Quayside and the family are no strangers to helping with community projects and fundraising, however, much activity has been restricted this year. “Running small beach cleans feels like a great way to do our bit to try and minimise the amount of plastic ending up in the sea as well as raising awareness” commented Stuart.

Quayside takes its environmental responsibility very seriously and the family have long been advocates of only serving sustainable fish and being industry front runners in the switch to greener packaging, where now 100% of takeaway food packaging at Quayside, and the family’s other outlets, is  biodegradable, and often compostable.

The family intend to continue running beach cleans and enjoy getting their own children involved too, Adrian added, “we genuinely love Whitby, all our children get great pleasure from the beach and we feel a responsibility to try and keep it the way it should be, so that everyone can enjoy it. It’s great to actively encourage our children to give something back too.”

To date, the MCS estimate that their beach cleans have collectively removed over 11 million pieces of litter.  For more information on the MCS and their Great British Beach Clean, visit https://www.mcsuk.org/beachwatch/events/gbbc

The Fusco Family own and manage Quayside, Royal Fisheries, and Fish Box (Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay) and have been serving fish and chips in Whitby for over 50 years.

The MCS (Marine Conservation Society) is the Uk’s leading marine charity working to ensure seas are healthy, pollution free and protected.  The Great British Beach Clean is run to reduce the amount of litter and plastic ending up in the seas.
